Kitty Kats, Oranges & derby philly style
This weekend began with an impatient watch tap as we waited for the weekly, Friday free food at Kitty Kat Bar in Remington. Anyone remember when it was Molly's Public House, lol? I mean you can't really complain when it's free. And when it turned up, compliments of the owner Jeff and Trattoria Annamaria, it was tasty. Up next was the Ottobar, where Thank You was a lot of fun and turned out to be entirely comprised of people I knew...really must keep up with people and their projects. Elke's drumming was especially notable, with little, playful infusions of wooden cow bells, or whatever that wooden thing was. The Oranges Band showcased Guided by Voices guitarist Doug Gillard (who I heard is going to be on the Oranges' next album), which definitely gave their live show a little something. Either way it was packed, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I heard via 10 text messages that I should've hit the Lithuanian Hall though because all of Mobtown was out, dancing and drinking the night away, underground style. Well, sounds hot and crowded to me, but I'm still a little remorseful I didn't hit it.
I did however manage to scrap my sorry ass out of bed at the crack of noon to take the seemingly long drive up to Philly. The Junkyard Dolls of your very own Charm City Roller Girls were defeated by the Heavy Metal Hookers by only a few points. We played a great game, and I actually had an awesome time. It's so much easier to hit people you don't know. Hmm, maybe that's the appeal of the travel team. I'll check back with you later this week to give you the skinny on what's coming up. Let me know what your plans are for the week!
